Service: Ground Improvement (Vibro Stone Columns)
Subsurface was given the task of bringing weak clays and silts of strengths of 1,500 psf to a
post-bearing pressure of 5,000 psf. Performance specifications called for less than one inch of
settlement and less than one-half inch differential settlement.
Subsurface Constructors designed a system of 800 vibro stone columns installed with their stratacaster vibro rig. The
800 stone columns were installed in 20 days. Load testing of several production columns was
performed in order to verify design column stiffness.
