Subsurface Constructors
St. Peters Rec Plex - St. Peters, Missouri
Service: Ground Improvement
This project involved an $18.5 million expansion of the existingRecPlexrecreation and sports facility in St. Peters, Missouri. The 125,000 sq. ft. addition nearly doubled the size of the original RecPlex, which hosted the diving trials for the 2004 Olympics.

Upon a geotechnical investigation, soils at the site were found to be engineered fill overlying soft to stiff siltyclays. Beneath the siltyclays was a stiff to very stiff shaleyclay to shale layer. Foundations for the structure were to be shallow footings supported by a ground improvement system providing a post-treatment bearing capacity of 3,000psf.

Subsurface installed 497 stone columns without pre-drilling, therefore little to no spoils were generated. This method was especially favorable due the wet and cold construction conditions. Two modulus tests were performed to confirm that design parameters were met or exceeded.
