High School Auditorium, West Memphis, AR
Service: Vibro Stone Columns
The geotechnical report by Hall, Blake Associates for the West Memphis H.S. New
Auditorium indicated the presence of soft to marginal soils, including roughly eight feet
of plastic clay in the upper portion of the building borings. With excessive settlements
and low soil strength a primary concern, Hall Blake recommended an intermediate
foundation system, consisting of aggregate piers, to increase allowable bearing
capacity and minimize foundation settlement. Subsurface Constructors
demonstrated that they could not only design and construct such a system for a
required 6,000 psf bearing pressure, but they could do so more cost effectively than
the competition.
