Temporary shoring for major earth retention project in university expansion

In St. Louis, a major earth retention project is underway on the Danforth Campus of Washington University. The expansion includes construction of three new academic buildings, two multi-use pavilions, an underground parking facility and a new, expansive landscape.

Subsurface Constructors’ work consists of the design and installation of temporary shoring for cuts of up to 50 feet. When complete, there will be over 4,000 lineal feet of walls resulting in over 96,000 square feet of retained earth, including roughly 430 soldier beams and 250 tie-backs. Subsurface will also provide the drilled shaft construction for support of the building structures.
